A new year always brings a fresh sense of motivation. New goals, new routines, and often a busy calendar filled with events and challenges to look forward too. But while it’s easy to focus on what you want to achieve this year, it’s worth asking an important question first: is your body ready for it? Ready for the changes and the challenges you are wanting to put through it?
What Are Your New Year’s Resolutions?
Every January, I hear similar goals from clients:
• “I want to get fitter this year.”
• “I’m going to start training properly again.”
• “I want to lose weight and feel healthier.”
• “I’ve signed up for an event and need to prepare.”
Whether it’s getting back into the gym, starting a running programme, or simply moving more than you did last year, all of these goals place new demands on your body.
What Have You Got Coming Up?
Have you got something specific in the diary?
• A fitness challenge or competition
• A charity run or endurance event
• A busy period at work
• More training than you did last year
Jumping straight into these without thinking about how your body feels right now is one of the most common reasons people end up injured or burnt out by February.
Are You Carrying Anything Over from Last Year?
Before you push forward, it’s worth being honest with yourself:
• Do you have any ongoing aches or niggles?
• Is there tightness you’ve been ignoring?
• Are old injuries still making themselves known?
These things rarely fix themselves, whilst adding more training or stress on top often makes them worse.
Start the Year the Right Way
Soft tissue therapy can help prepare your body for what’s ahead by:
• Releasing built-up tension from the past year
• Improving mobility and movement
• Reducing injury risk as training increases
• Helping you feel more balanced and comfortable
It’s not about going all-out in January, it’s about setting yourself up to stay consistent for the whole year. This is the way that you are more likely to be successful with your plans throughout the year.
Final Thoughts
New Year’s motivation is great, but it works best when your body is supported as well as your mindset. Taking a proactive approach now can save you a lot of frustration later on.
So ask yourself:
• What do I want to achieve this year?
• What challenges or events are coming up?
• And what does my body need to keep up with it all?
I wish you all the best for 2026, I hope that you complete everything you set out to achieve. I'm here to hep and support you along the way.
